RTITB Master Driver Certificate of Competence

Who is the course for?

The RTITB Master Driver Certificate of Competence gives professional status to experienced drivers and differentiates them from those who have recently joined the industry or the driver who consistently underperforms.

It has been developed by RTITB together with road haulage companies, LGV drivers and other transport professionals.

It covers all the skills that drivers and employers have identified as crucial to a fully competent, safe and responsible driver in a single, practical workplace assessment.

Master Driver will have a significant impact on driver motivation and retention and will assist the industry in recruitment.

What does it take to become an RTITB Master Driver?

• As vehicle safety is paramount, you must carry out a comprehensive daily vehicle check following a standard Master Driver check list
  
• You must be able to assess load distribution, safety and security
  
• You are observed driving a laden vehicle on all road types
  
• You must understand and demonstrate the principles of defensive and economic driving
  
• You must be able to plan routes taking into account time, fuel economy, environmental factors and vehicle weight and height. You must have a knowledge of basic First Aid and action in the event of emergency
  
• As a first line ambassador for your company you must recognise the importance of safe and courteous driving and customer care
